Cholesterol home testing devices?

I got my cholesterol checked (fasting lipoprotein profile) about three years ago by my family doctor. I am 38, don't smoke, don't drink much, and eat pretty healthy for the most part. I'm wondering if I can use a home testing device for my next cholesterol test - there seems to be quite a lot of them out there. Is this as good as going to your doctor? Is it safe?

Melanoma - next step?

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with melanoma. I have very fair hair and skin, and I spent my teens tanning and burning, so I can see why. I was in shock when my doctor diagnosed me, and I guess I didn't think about what happens after treatment. I have a thicker melanoma, so my doctor recommended excision. He told me all about the procedure, that it is relatively simple, etc. I feel that I have a good chance of making a totally normal recovery. So, what happens after the excision? How often do I need to get follow up? Or, is there some other procedure I will then need? Thanks.

Yeast infection

I recently discovered I have breast cancer. I had the cancer removed and received treatment with the SAVI catheter. I was given cefadroxil antibiotic to take for 22 doses while I had the instrument inserted in my breast. It was removed on Saturday and the round of antibiotics was finished. I have developed a monster of a yeast infection , which is now being treated. My question involves the breast nipple that was treated with radiation. It is very tender, swollen and red. Could I have yeast infection in the nipple?

Acid Reflux and pregnancy

My husband and I are trying to start a family. I have severe acid reflux and a hernia. I'm worried that I will be in a lot of pain with the pressure being put onto my hernia, as well as the worsening of the acid reflux. Also, will I be able to stay on my acid reflux medications? Thanks.

Son with allergies

My son has really bad allergies. What can we do? He is allergic to many foods, as well as pets. It would be nice if we could find some remedies for him, as our doctor is saying he may have to get regular allergy shots soon. Maybe some natural remedies? How about air filters?

Compression socks?

Depression a symptom of thyroid problem?

Can depression be a symptom of a thyroid condition? I suffer from hyperthyroidism and also depression, and a friend told me that this was true. However, I can't find much to back it up.

Diabetes monitoring

Hi there: I am 20 and got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 16. It has obviously has changed my life a lot. I am used to giving myself insulin and monitoring my blood sugar by now, but I am frustrated with monitoring my blood sugar. I do single dose injections. I check my blood sugar 3 times a day. I keep having my monitoring break on me or not last long, or get inaccurate or need to be recalibrated. I just need an accurate system!!! If anyone out there has a blood check monitoring system they really like, please let me know. Because I can't take this anymore.

Minimizing radiation effects?

Hi, I have lung cancer, and my chances of recovery are so-so. I have to get radiation to treat it, and I've heard about all the side effects from my doctor. Does anyone know how you can minimize some of the nasty side effects of radiation? Anyone who has been through it, I would appreciate your input. Thanks a lot.
