The respiratory system is comprised of the lungs, airways and the respiratory muscles that allow the movement of air in and out of the body. The primary function of the respiratory system is to supply your body's blood with oxygen. There are many conditions and diseases that can affect the respiratory system. Things like asthma and emphysema are considered obstructive conditions, while restrictive conditions are things like fibrosis, pleural effucsion and alveolar damage. Vascular diseases of the respiratory system include pulmonary embolism and pulmonary edema.
